A Golden Deal: Assassin’s Creed 3!

Thank you to Ubisoft for sponsoring this post. Please visit Amazon.com to get your own copy of Assassin’s Creed 3, today’s Gold Box Deal of the Day! I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective. All opinions are my own.

There’s a gamer side of me that not many people see, and I don’t talk a lot about because it’s not very attractive. I get very competitive and have even told my cat to get away from me because I’m getting some assassinating done. So it’s no shocker that I’ve been hooked on Assassin’s Creed since the first game. The fact that the first one took place in the Ottoman’s empire and there was Turkish being spoken that I recognized didn’t hurt!

Just Dance 4 – Rickroll Included

Thank you to Ubisoft for sponsoring this post. Please click here to learn more about Ubisoft. I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective. #UbiChamps

I dance around in my apartment all the time, sometimes to no music. So when I get a chance to review a game like Just Dance 4 from Ubisoft, I jump on it. It had been a while since I’d used my Kinect when I tried out Just Dance 4 so once I got through the updates, I picked a song and dived into the game.

Draw Something? Do Doodles Count?

I cannot draw a straight line with a ruler.

I wish I was kidding. Pictionary? Not my game.

I tried taking art classes because my dad is a brilliant artist, and naturally, I got my mom’s skills when it comes to anything even remotely close to art.  When I was in 4th grade, we had to do a drawing to illustrate the parts of an ear. I couldn’t even trace it properly. As in, the picture was there, in great detail in my book and I couldn’t trace it to save my life.

So my dad saved my grade by doing it helping me.

In 8th grade, we were reading the Hobbit and we had an assignment to illustrate a scene. Excuse me, but isn’t this English class? Can’t I just write about it? No, I have to draw something? OK, sure.

Superdad to the rescue!

Of course, because my dad worked on the drawing late at night, with a cigarette permanently attached to his lips, my notebooks smelled like smoke. The next day, when I opened my backpack in English class, my teacher approaced me and asked me if I was smoking cigarettes.

*cue horror*

“N–no. My parents smoke and, and, my dad borrowed my notebook.”

So now there’s this game that everyone is playing. The premise is to draw something and have your friends guess what the word is.

Hahahahahahahahahaha

*breath*

ahahahahahahahahahahaha

No. I will play Words with Friends until I’m dreaming about it (May or may not have happened) but any game that requires me to actually draw and do it on my tiny iPod screen?

Hell no.

I have enough confidence issues. The last thing I need is a game that is designed to make me feel like a failure.

No, you guys go on and get your drawings on.  Also, don’t invite me to any game nights that consist purely of games that require me to draw and/or mold something out of clay.

Uh-uh.

You know what I’ll do if I’m at a game night with Pictionary as the main game?

I’ll take pictures. (Yes, this is a shameless plug for my Etsy shop, which is now back up and will have new pictures added.)

That’s the extent of my artistic ability because if my hand happens to shake, or I get a crooked picture, I might still be able to make something of it.

Sunday Thoughts

It’s been a while since I blogged and that feels strange to me. This past week was the week from hell. I’ve always had problems with tooth pain and since I haven’t had my wisdom teeth taken out just yet, they’ll occasionally act out. This past week, they decided to put me through the worst pain possible while hitting me with an ear infection. Let’s just say pain killers and antibiotics were my best friend.

In the meantime, while I was dying from pain, I had the best blog ideas go through my mind with absolutely no energy to formulate the words.

Hopefully, once I’m caught up on homework, finish midterms and get caught up on work, I can find the words once again.

Despite the pain, and the stress of not getting much work done during the week, I’m feeling pretty good. I took about 100 steps backwards when I found myself sinking into the same quicksand that was my emotional home 4 years ago. A good friend told me that I was backtracking way too much and needed to snap out of it quickly.

So I did.

I’m the kind of person that is fully aware of every thought that goes through her head so I analyze every feeling. Sometimes, the number of steps I’ve taken forward in my life and how I have the happiness I never thought was real throws me off. It’s hard to accept it at times and I wait for the other shoe to drop. I see traits of my old self in other people around me and it feels like an out-of-body experience.

I’m a different person yet the same.

The word ‘maturity’ gets thrown around a lot between my friends who have known me for years.

All I know is that I really like who I am, and where my life is going. Oh and ya know, having an amazing boyfriend who loves me and supports me more than I deserve (at times) is pretty awesome too.

I’m also reminded, daily, that I have the most amazing friends and even though new people will enter my life, none can ever replace the bond and love that we share across the miles and years.

On the random side of things:

– The Boy & I ordered the XBox Kinect. I am SO excited!

– I started a finished a book this week. It has been so long since I’ve read a book, and it felt so good. I need to do that more often.

– We went to see Megamind (3D) last night…It was really cute and funny. I just…should’ve been more sober for the first half of the movie.
– I <3 Peppermint White Mochas.
– I will be working on a financial blog once everything is caught up with work and school. A lot of people have been asking me for tips on budgeting, etc and I know that I owe Mister J. Money a guest post so that’s on my list of things to do in the next month or so.
– I’m slowly but surely catching up with my Google Reader so I apologize if I’ve sucked at commenting lately. But I’m reading.
The Walking Dead is so amazingly awesome. I cannot wait for the new episode tonight!
– I miss NY. A LOT. I need to write a NYC blog post.

How was YOUR week? What’s new in your world?

Up Up Down Down Left Right B A Start

At 2:oo a.m. on a Saturday night, I was under the covers…squealing with joy.

What?

Oh, get your mind out of the gutter fools. I was on my computer! Why was I so excited? I found this blog and that blog had an entry that made me scream.

“OMG! BUBBLE BOBBLE! IT’S BUBBLE BOBBLE! DO YOU REMEMBER BUBBLE BOBBLE?”

“I remember” my boyfriend replied.

“I HAVE TO FIND IT!”

And a quick google search gave me an amazing website that lets me play Bubble Bobble! What did I do for the next 20 minutes? I PLAYED BUBBLE BOBBLE!

And I am quite proud of it.

See, most of my memories after moving to the US revolve around video games. We used to play on my cousin’s original Nintendo (Blowing on it for 5 minutes to get it work everytime.) Sega Genesis was my all-time favorite but I remember spending hours at ToysRus when our moms were shopping, playing the new games on the new systems.  James Bond on Nintend64 anyone?

Streets of Rage 2, Street Fighter, Sonic the Hedgehog, were at the top of my list of games that I could spend hours playing on Sega. As far as sports games go, Mutant League Football was my favorite!! That game was fun as hell!

Of course who can forget the classic Mario, and Donkey Kong for the Nintendo Gameboy?  And before I even moved to the US, I was a handheld Tetris addict!

My love of games was not restricted to game consoles. Who remembers SkiFree*? Oh come on…How many of us spent hours on the computer, skiing down that mountain, running away from the monster trying to eat us?

(Un)fortunately, my love for video games has not diminished as I grew older.  My taste is the same…I still geek out over the classics but like my movies, I love a lot of action and strategy in my video games. Of course, crashing a car or 10 is always therapeutic as well.

It’s a good thing my boyfriend is as much of a geek as I am…because let’s face it…my house WILL have a game room and it just might have a Nintendo controller as a coffee table.

Or ya know…a Pac-man ghost or two on the walls…

So my dear fellow geeks…Do share your favorite video-game memories…games….and whether or not you are still an addict.

While you do that, I’ll be over here, blowing bubbles until my hands don’t work anymore.

*I totally just downloaded it to my computer.
