“What does PQ stand for?”
“Well, it’s a long, kind of silly story…”
And it was. It was a ridiculous story and it stood for something silly. At least, before I had the confidence to really reveal the origins behind PQ Productions before it became my company when I jumped headfirst into freelancing.
If you’ve been paying attention, I’ve been hinting at some big projects. Two years ago, I wrote a blog where I, for the first time in years, talked about my passion for advocacy and how much I’ve been dying to get back to it. THEN LIFE GOT IN THE WAY. As it does.
This past year, I was just done. All I wanted to do was get back to my roots, my passion. See, life gets in the way. You start working on other projects. You take jobs because you need to pay the rent but if there’s one thing that is just relentless underneath all of those struggles, then you have to pursue it, don’t you? Give it life. Let it breathe. Give it room to grow and influence people around you.
So I decided I would. I reserved the domain name last year, actually. I finally had enough breathing room to come up with a concept, a mission statement and a color palette (because branding, of course) and contacted my friend who designed the cover for my book.
Two weeks later, all of the logos and banners were designed.
There was nothing holding me back from pulling the trigger.
So, I launched the page, hit “Send” on the newsletter and then published this on my status:
In the last few years, I’ve managed and built communities for a lot of people. When I decided to launch my own community (the big huge project I’ve been talking about), I had no idea pulling the trigger would be so difficult but here we are. 7 years after the idea was born, after sharing my vision with just a few people (seriously, only a handful of people knew about it), I’m feeling confident enough to take the leap to make my vision and dream a reality.
This is just the beginning. I am shooting for an early February launch date for the actual website and hope to announce the next big step by June, 2014.
A lot of you have asked me what PQ stands for. I’ve always had a tongue in cheek response, but PQ Productions was born on the day I decided to get into advocacy 7 years ago. At the heart of it, it was always about Philanthropy, so I am proud to announce the launch of Philanthropy Quest. It’s my baby and it’s been an undying passion in my life.
Give the page a ‘Like’. Stay tuned. Big things are happening.
There’s your answer: PQ in PQ Productions stands for “Philanthropy Quest”.
I am ready to dedicate my free time to an undying passion that’s been fueling me for the past few years.
I really hope you’ll join me on this journey.
Oh and in case you’re wondering, this has been me all day.
