Email & My Relationship

Thank you to Yahoo! Mail for sponsoring this post about staying connected. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity, as I do.

Here’s a tidbit you may not have known: The first couple of months of my relationship with Andrew (before he practically started living with me) was fueled by email (& texting because I hate talking on the phone).

We were not in a long distance relationship but because we were both busy & on the computer all day, it just made SENSE that we would email.  There are literally hundreds of emails in my inbox & one of the first email threads we have is 20 emails deep.

I should’ve known he was a talkative man from his email. Yes, we were getting to know each other but his emails tended to be wordier than mine.

[As I write this blog, I went back & reread some of those emails. WE WERE RIDICULOUSLY DORKY. Oh. Wait. We still are.]

Confession time: One of my biggest pet peeves is people having bad grammar and bad spelling. I mean, it drives me NUTS. I’m the girl who emails bloggers to tell them about typos in their blogs. (Yup. I’m that girl.)

That should mean that whenever Andrew misspelled a word, it should’ve driven me nuts. We shouldn’t have even made it to our first date!

But we did.

The thing about me & Andrew is that our emails didn’t always have to be novels. Sometimes, he would text me an email (Before the poor boy joined the 21st century & got a smart phone) so that my phone wouldn’t wake me up if I was sleeping.

The one-liners were sometimes the best ones.

These days, we don’t email as much. Sometimes, if he comes across something he wants to share, he’ll shoot it to me in an email but now we get to actually TALK, since we live together & all that.

Email was a major driving force in our relationship in the beginning. It helped me get to know him when we didn’t spend as much time together because of his hours.

I won’t delete any of the emails from earlier in our relationship because 5 years from now, when I’m in one of those mushy, romantic, ridiculous moods, I’ll want to look back & remember how it all began.

Oh let’s face it…He’ll probably be using it to apologize to me when he needs to get creative with the apology too 😉

I love looking back on old emails. Sometimes I cringe, but that’s part of the fun.

I’ve deleted hundreds of emails from the past 5 years that I held on to for too long but I keep the good ones 🙂

Lovely story! I’ll never delete the emails between me and my boyfriend, either– who knows when I’ll feel like reminiscing about our early days 🙂

Awww, it’s sweet.  Egg Roll and I were quite a similar case in the beginning, it was all e-mail and texting because I also loathe talking on the phone.

I think its great that e-mail (and by extension, online dating) can bring people together.  It makes it easier to get to know one another…

    I love your story.  <3

Hi!  I just came across your blog and really like your writing.  My live-in and I have been together 6 years this month and I still have all of our emails from high school/early college saved (I’m 22, he’s 24 now).  It’s nice.  Keep them forever!
