I get stressed out – a lot. It’s easy for me to get overwhelmed and frustrated. This is why I keep my Xbox handy (I even bought one as one of my first purchases for the apartment).
Gaming has always been a way of dealing with stress for me. I could watch TV but my mind races. Working out helps sometimes but again, my mind can race, making it harder for me to decompress. Sometimes I write. Other times, I’ll just go for a walk. (All of these activities, with the exception of watching TV are accompanied by music) If I grab a book to decompress, I usually end up staying up all night to read it, so I try not to do that when I have to return to work within the hour.
Gaming, though? Always works. Whether it’s playing a racing game, a dancing game or an action shooter game like Far Cry 3 (which is the Gold Box Deal of the day, btw), my Xbox always gives me the escape that I need, even if it’s just for 20 minutes. I’m competitive. It helps me focus on one thing, and one thing only, which is very rare for me.
Even right now, as I’m writing this post, I’m finishing up an email for work, printing coupons for grocery shopping tonight and setting up my DVR while adding to my to-do list for tonight for my current projects. Working from home means that the lines between work and relaxation get blurred, which makes it hard to find time to decompress. I feel like tonight will be a night that will definitely need mandatory quality time with my Xbox 360, even if it’s just for 20 minutes (not counting the game loading, of course).
