Taking Chances, Resumes & Pictures

I officially resigned from my internship this morning.  The last month has been a trial run, and it helped me realize that the reason losing my job was the best thing to happen wasn’t so I could have that specific internship.
It was so I can figure out exactly what I want to do with my life.

I love social media but do I want a job in it? I love Public Relations but do I want to be an account executive full time? What is it that I want to do?

I now have the chance to figure out how to move forward in my life and my career.  I have a basic idea of what I want to accomplish so next step is to try out new things.

I am taking a chance and not looking back. How often do you get the opportunity to check out different opportunities to cross off pros and cons of a field and a 40-hour work week in that specific job?

So instead of applying to full-time jobs, I am seeking out internships and part-time jobs with my freelance on the side. This is my life and this is me living it.

The next step will be a part-time internship with myImpact (And maybe an additional one depending on when I get the job description from a great company I reached out to last week).  According to their website, myImpact.org is:  an online platform for volunteers in national and community service programs. Our Twitter-based tool allows volunteers to record, share and track their impact. I had a great conversation with Chris Golden on Saturday and am looking forward to working with them!

In the meantime, I am helping my friends who are looking for a full-time job with their search. I’ve had recruiters and a PR firm reach out to me with open positions and if you sent me your resume already, it has been passed on.  If you’re a company in the Washington, DC metro area (Or even outside the DC area) and you are hiring, you can contact me and I will pass the information on and get candidate resumes your way.  If you are currently looking for a job, the same goes for you. I will do my best to help you out!

You can reach me at any of my links on the sidebar or e-mail me. Be sure to put “Seeking Candidates (Job) re: Blog” so I can sort through my emails faster and won’t miss yours! If you are not looking in the DC area, please be sure to put the location in the subject as well.

In other news…

I am also taking more pictures and I will eventually start selling my prints once I have 10-15 of them that I like.  For now, you can check them out on Flickr.  Here are a few of my most recent/favorite pictures.

I really love that spider web one. If I knew anything about photography, I’d ask how you captured it so well, but I don’t so….great job. 🙂

If I knew anything about photography, I’d tell you 🙂

Thanks! I’m just tinkering right now but I’d love to become more professional in it.

good stuff! I can only imagine how exciting and rewarding this time in your life must be for you.

    • PrincessQ August 24, 2010, 3:07 pm

      It’s certainly a change, I’ll tell you that much…haha.

But it brings me awesome people like you so I’m happy 🙂

Not going to say why you left the internship?

Every day is a winding road… you get a little bit closer…

    • PrincessQ August 24, 2010, 3:26 pm

There’s no need to get into the details, except to say that it wasn’t what I signed up for and that became clear very quickly.

      And yes, yes it is.

I think it’s fantastic that you’re using this time wisely to explore your options. A good friend of mine once said that a lot of people will step in any open door only to realize too late it’s the wrong house. Heck, I’m still figuring out my footing but aren’t we all? It seems like something that needs to be done almost daily. 🙂

I do constantly reevaluate my life and choices but I’ve never had a chance to take professional risks like this where I can figure out exactly what I want and what I don’t want. I’m going to ride the wave as long as I can.

    Good for you!
I majored in Communication (focus on photojournalism) and I’m not doing anything with it. I actually decided that that wasn’t what I wanted to do with my life.
I wish I could move to DC but I just signed a new lease with a roommate.

    Best of luck to you!

What is it that you want to do with your life?

      And thank you!

      • Lucy August 25, 2010, 3:06 pm

I want to start a nonprofit for young girls focused on building self-esteem through the arts.

        • PrincessQ August 25, 2010, 4:00 pm

That is amazing! Have you started work on that?

          • Lucy August 25, 2010, 4:04 pm

            No I haven’t…Sad face.

I know there shouldn’t be any excuses when it comes to your dreams but I want to be well equipped before I can begin anything.

I hope that you’re at least making connections!

Those pictures are so nice! They look professional- what camera are you using? And congrats for quitting your internship and looking for something you’re more interested in. I hope it all goes well, though it sounds already like it will!!

I use Sony Cybershot (I’ve used it for years…just kept updating).

      Thank you!!

You have no idea how much I admire your courage with this. I only wish I could break free from the immense responsibility on my shoulders and dive into what I want…

  • Miss Tricky August 27, 2010, 1:54 pm

    I envy you!

    And am so proud…
