Piece by Piece

So, apparently I’m ‘nesting’.

I’m told that’s not a bad thing.

In case you missed the memo, the Boy and I are moving in together…but the thing is, I don’t have any furniture. Neither does he. This means we need to build our home PIECE BY PIECE. Right down to the nitty-gritty. Like buckets & mops.

Which is fine.

I still need your help.

The help I need is two-fold:

1) What are things that WE MUST HAVE? Think about even the most obvious thing that we wouldn’t think of but if the day comes and we don’t have it, we would have to rush to the store.

2) I created a Wishlist on Amazon…basically, instead of bringing us wine/liquor to a housewarming party, you can help us build our home. It’s mostly little stuff because obviously, we’ll cover the big stuff.

I don’t think we have quite a color theme, etc yet for our place. What I do know is that I want my bedroom furniture to be dark, my bathroom to be a dark blue color and the rest to be simple when it comes to color yet modern and bright in design.

I know, I’m a strange little panda.

Here’s our wishlist.

Also, I adore this:

Also, if you’re in the DC area, let me know if you’re going to the Chili Cookoff…because I’ll be there!

oh another way to get gifts out of people… i did this when i moved out the first time… depending on how giving your families are send out “we moved” note cards with your new address. you’d be surprised how many target and BBB gift cards might show up. 🙂

Walter and I put things on our wedding registry that we would need for the house because neither of us have ever lived on our own before. I love that nesting feeling, and I can’t wait for us to get an apartment or house of our own so I can put all my organizational and anal retentive skills to good use.

There are no MUSTHAVES…you get and then get by with what you’ve got….and then get some more….

    • PrincessQ April 23, 2010, 2:41 pm

Well, I happen to think glasses and silverware are usually important as must-haves…lol

Luckily, we already had a lot of furniture when I moved in with my fiancee. But I definitely did the nesting thing. I painted the entire house in one weekend because it just HAD to be done. : )

I like your idea on the must-haves – yes, glasses, silverware, dishes – even if it’s nothing fancy. Also, make sure you have somewhere to sit – even if it’s just extra throw pillows as a cushion.

DC craigslist is incredible for furniture… seriously. At least compared to the craigslist in my little upstate new york former home town.

I had started an Amazon wishlist just to keep track of everything we need to buy in one place. And a couple of people (including his parents) were asking what they could get us so I just made it public. It’s not a registry…Just my personal wishlist made public.

  • shine May 4, 2010, 3:04 pm

    Um, uh, toilet paper?

Funny story…He had to actually walk to the other house the other day when we were moving because we hadn’t bought TP yet.

Dude, I’ll be at chili cookoff.

Also, you will always need a lighter, backup rum, and a screwdriver. Trust me.
