I Am Not Miss Sunshine

But I refuse to be Debbie Downer.

Social media has provided us with many tools to share and receive information, make each other laugh, plan trips and meet new people.  It has also given us the opportunity to stalk keep up with our friends that we don’t get to talk to everyday…It’s our window to the thoughts and feelings of everyone we choose to interact with on a friendly level.  Twitter and Facebook also now give me insight on just how negative people can be on a regular basis and to be honest, it’s draining just scrolling through my timelines.

Let’s be clear. Life is not easy. My life isn’t perfect and although I’m surrounded by love, there are days when I still let the world get to me. (Just ask the people who live with me or the Boy.)  One thing I refuse to do is continue to wallow in negativity or SPREAD IT.

There are days my life sucks but that doesn’t mean I’m going to resent people who are having a good day.

I don’t understand what a person could gain by complaining all the time and focusing on the negative.

Sure, there are some moments when nothing a person can do to cheer me up and too much positivity annoys the crap out of me but I take myself away from situations that might amplify my bad mood.

There are people on my Twitter feed who continually bitch about their lives, the fact that it’s Monday and “Woe is me, I have to start another week at a job I’m so fortunate to have while millions of people are unemployed and can’t feed their families.”

“Oh no, I have to pay my bills and can’t make the luxury trips I want to make all over the country.”

Sure. Life is hard sometimes. No one said it’d be easy.

There’s just no need to constantly air out the negativity.  You’re infecting yourself and everyone who chooses to be a part of your life.

Am I always positive? Hell no. I’ve bitched and moaned but as annoying as I might get, I choose to focus on the positive instead. If I’m having a rough day, instead of wallowing in self-pity, I do things I know will cheer me up some…even if it’s something as small as looking at LOLCats or watching an old episode of Friends.

Spread laughter to those around you instead of dragging them with you to the pit of negative thoughts.

Do something silly today: Take a ridiculous picture & don’t delete it. When someone you love is having a bad day, it just might be the only thing to make them smile.

I understand what you are saying, but on the flip side there are some ppl (like me) that post the negative on Twitter and FB, so that they CAN get on with their day. And like people have always said…you don’t have to continue to read it….not saying I’d ever want to lose a ‘friend’ over shit like that, but I have to do what I need to do to get through MY day too!!!

That’s fair. And I do the same thing once in a while…This is more directed at people who do this 90% of the time, instead of when things get SUPER bad.

I ONLY take ridiculous pictures. Life’s more fun that way.

      Ain’t it though?

I completely agree. I like to keep my kvetching to myself or a few “lucky” people, and that’s about it. And then I blast some music on my iPod (or something similar) until I’m fit to be social again.

Yeah, I definitely have that select few that have the pleasure of seeing ALL sides of my wrath…lol

I feel the same way. I’m not always happy and loving life, but I try to mostly put positivity on the internets and let all the bad stuff go.

That’s definitely a good way to handle things.

I know what you mean – I don’t exactly consider myself the most optimistic person in the world but I try to see the positive – or at least FUNNY – side of things as much as I can because no one wants to see negativity that much. Have a quick rant or a moan by all means . . . get it out . . . just don’t make a habit of it!

    Great post, by the way.
