Not So Lucky After All…Customer Service Fail

So, seeing as how it was my birthday, my awesome coworkers and I decided to do happy hour after work. Since I don’t really go out, they picked the bar and we headed to Lucky Bar after work. (Right next to Julia’s Empanadas! Have to give a shout out to my friend’s business and all.)

So we head to the table in the back close to the bar and after everyone got there, we ordered drinks. Now, one of my coworkers ordered food. I didn’t HEAR what she ordered but when the nachos came, this is what happened…I will make the point that when talking about the mixup with the food, we had no attitude whatsoever.

T: Oh, this isn’t what I ordered. I wanted the chips and salsa.
Waitress: Well, this is what you ordered.
T: Oh I must’ve misunderstood. I wanted the chips and salsa.
Waitress: (Starting to get bitchy and really fidgety) Well, THIS is what you ordered. Do you WANT chips and salsa?
T: Yes. (M jumped in at this point and said that she’d eat the nachos so we just needed an extra order of chips and salsa…at this point, we’re cool).

The waitress walks away in a HUFF but we’re already in conversation at the table. All of a sudden, I hear a real whiny voice and snippets of “Nachos”…”Chips”…”Salsa”…”Ugh”. We turn around and the waitress is BEHIND THE BAR, complaining about US. At this point, we started to get a little annoyed because 1)That’s rude and 2) That’s unprofessional. So as we’re trying to decide how to react to this, a menu is slammed on the table in front of T.

Waitress: THIS is chips & salsa. THIS is nachos.
T: Can we see your manager please?

So naturally, she & the manager don’t come for a good 10 minutes…She must’ve been telling HER side. So the manager comes and asks us what’s wrong. The waitress doesn’t let us get a WORD IN and says “They just ordered the wrong thing…” and T goes “No, that wasn’t the issue. We had resolved the food mixup. Our complaint is about the fact that she was talking about us very unprofessionally behind the bar.”

And THEN THE WAITRESS SAYS…I shit you not…

“Well, I’m sorry that you were listening in on my private conversation.” So I looked at her and said “Actually, we could hear you all over the bar noise without even trying.” I think S said something as well but I wasn’t really paying attention to him.

She gets all in a huff and says that maybe she should transfer us to another waitress. She then grabs the nacho plate, AS M WAS TAKING A NACHO, and starts to walk away. As she’s walking up to the bar, I very quietly say “Uh…we sort of wanted the nachos.” She stops in her tracks, turns around and brings the plate back. I looked at her dead in the eye and said…

“Oh. I guess you could hear me all the way from the bar.”

We got a new waitress who was AWESOME and got a very good tip from us at the end of the night. We were super cool about the food mix-up because things like that happen. But talking about your customers? That shit doesn’t fly with us.

S, T & I are very confrontational. L & M aren’t…so we decided to let it drop. That girl deserved a beating though…

The rest of the night was fantastic! And we got the nachos for free. I left around 8…it was getting pretty crowded because of the U.S. soccer game (I think that’s what was on TV…). All in all…a good time. But remember…if you want to complain about your customers, don’t do it within earshot of them…before you get your tip.

    I hate it when people helping you are rude like that. I’m very courteous and a great tipper as long as the person is at least trying to do their job. I can’t stand rude people though.

    Sheesh. I’m in food service. I at least wait for the person to walk away. And why get bitchy about a food mix-up. Sometimes people do order the wrong thing. The point is to fix it fast so everybody’s happy.

    I think she was having a bad day. And she’s also in the wrong line of work if that’s how she handles it.

    JEEEZ! That is just crazy! That is how people in this town are. The customer service is so bad. I just don’t understand the logic! Isn’t TIP the priority??
