What’s In A Name? Really?

It’s strange…or maybe it would be strange to someone that isn’t me…

See, the thing is…I go by two names. My real one (That I love by the way) and a pen name. The reason I have to have a pen name is that I have a family that wouldn’t really understand my love for blogging and writing…and the way I interact with so many of you…and it is a very distinct name. I don’t need to be googled by them. So, about two years ago, I took on a pen name. I didn’t realize I’d get this far but Jordan Q is the person you interact with on a daily basis…And the name most of you know me by…

I have two LinkedIn profiles. One with my real name for my professional life as an administrative assistant and a professional in DC…and one as Jordan Q for my professional life as a writer…

I honestly can’t wait until the two merge…but until then…it doesn’t feel strange to me.

Should it?

I am who I am. I just have to be very picky about which name I present my writing under until I can lead a life where that won’t be an issue. I don’t think it takes away from who I am as a person or the way I interact with the people in my life…online, offline…friend or professional.

Isn’t that all that matters?

When I meet people online, and I consider them friends…I don’t hesitate to tell them my real name…for those of you who aren’t quite there yet…B-Rocka is as close as you’re gonna get…lol.

What’s funny is…even my friends who know my real name call me J, Q, PQ, Jordan, Quello or just plain B…

Or they call me Princess, Smoosh, Diva, Angel, Angelbaby, B-Rocka or just plain ol’ bitch.

Does my name represent who I am…shouldn’t the person I am take care of that already?

I have no apologies…and no reason to apologize. Besides…I’m not the first one to take on a pen name, am I?

Let my words and realities be my representation…with the thorns and all.

In some ways, you will always be PQ to me …

My real name is out there b/c using the blog name while talking and showing my actual face in a vlog I did one day seemed like fighting a battle I’d already conceded. But I never use the real name otherwise, even though with just a really small effort people could find out what it is.

I get you on this one. My real name isn’t anywhere on my blog or my social networking sites. If you’re lucky enough for me to trust you, you get my Facebook account which is under my real name. Otherwise – I am a ninja! LOL

    xoxoxo

Bloggers who are Twitter followers and Facebook friends do know my name, but I probably will never use my real name on my blog. I feel secure in that conviction.

I completely understand the pen name. A lot of people use different names on-line and that’s fine with me. I know your name, but you are usually PQ to me. LOL

I think that my REAL name doesn’t represent me at all, so I have a nickname, and that’s what y’all know me as……I don’t think that having a ‘stage name’ detracts in any way, as long as you present the same ‘face’ whatever name you go under (and I believe you do!!!)

Of course – you didn’t even remember my real name when we met up on Friday!! I love my pen name ๐Ÿ™‚

I like having two names, two worlds too… they do collide occasionally, but in generally I like to keep them pretty separate… I would DIE if my parents ever found my blog!
